Amsterdam-Dakar (English)
The Amsterdam-Dakar Challenge is a non-competitive rally starting in Amsterdam, with the finish in Dakar, Senegal. We (The Team (english)) have to drive the 7000 kilometers from start to finish in a car (The car) bought for maximum €500, that we can adjust for a maximum of €250.
The main goal of the Amsterdam-Dakar Challenge is collecting money for charities, mostly in Gambia. There are two ways in which we support the charity we picked. We are trying to find people and companies who are willing to sponsor us by giving money to the project we picked. You can read more about this on the charity page. The other way we are trying to help the Young Ones Skills & Training Centre is by selling our car: After the finish in Dakar we will drive 'a little' further to Mabako in Mali. There will be an auction there in which our car will be sold. The money that is made in this auction will be given to the charity as well.
The whole Dakar Challenge ha a challenge in its own. The route goes through Mauritania and all authorities are pretty negative about travel there. One should not go there unless it is essential. The organization offers the Maroc Challenge as an alternative, one drives all the way to the very South of Morocco and then back, Must be a very challenging and beautiful route, but it is not the real thing. In the previous edition the RED SEA CHALLENGE was offered, which has some more appeal to us. Drive through Turkey, Syria and Jordania to the Red Sea. Well, let us see what will happen.
